Michael Bush, When you use top entrances, do the bees change where they put their brood nest?

Bees put honey over the brood nest.  So generally the brood nest ends up at the bottom no matter where the entrance is.  No all bees make the same decisions though.  Sometimes the brood nest goes up the middle (chimney) in several boxes.

I haven't had bees long enough but my experience is they chimney when there is an over abundance of stores.  I wonder if it gives them a quicker chance to swarm in the spring.
