Just a few dead drones

I'm not so much worried as I am curious if anyone else has ever seen anything like this... I was removing a queen excluder and under the center of it, on the top bars, there was a small cluster of dead drones.  Maybe 5"x3".  I wonder why all drones.  They didn't appear to be stuck in the excluder or anything and I didn't see alot of dead drones at the entrance. Any Ideas :?:

Drones can't get through an excluder at all.  If they got trapped where there was no exit except through the excluder (like drones in the supers with no top entrance0 then they will die trying to get out.
