Tom: New to beekeeping or not, someone to call or to go and see is the best way to keep informed. I'm lucky, I have a gentleman beekeeper that is just a phone call away most anytime and has been keeping bees for a long time and doesn't mind me coming to his yards and helping plus the questions, he answers freeley and lets me have hands on training with his hives. This man even comes to my place and helps me when I think I'm in over my head. A friend indeed is he. Good luck in finding such a person. Pembroke

This forum is invaluable  as a mentor.  Better I think to get many opinions and do what's right for you and your bees.

I love my local bee group - Metro Atlanta Beekeepers.  Even if there's not a local club in your part of Virginia, maybe there's a near enough local group to drive to their meetings - a number of people come a decent distance to go to the Metro meetings.
