        I remember I was in jr high school. And yes this was announced in school. I heard this on a broadcast. The teacher had a small Transistor radio. Yes, I remember the showdown at the blockade . Of cuba Also remember walter crony.. Had special broadcasts on this.

This was a scary time. My neighbor was selling bomb shelters. Lots of them. There is a house about four houses from where I grew up that still has one of those bomb shelters in his front yard. It takes up the entire front yard and is a raised mound. My father almost bought one to put in the backyard.
In school we did bombing drills. We closed the windows and crawled under our desks. That was ridiculous and wouldn?t save anyone. It was supposed to make us think we would survive.
When you look at records of what really happened on both sides, we came within seconds of eliminating both the US and most of Russia.
