Suggestions on re-queening and queen age

In reference to my last post on 7/29 "ouch", this aggressive colony is better but not how they used to be. So I am going to re-queen. Two thoughts: 1) the new queen is currently with approxitmity 2lbs of bees. I could remove the existing queen and do a newspaper combine. or 2) catch the queen and some attendents in a queen cage, remove the existing queen and introduce the new queen like you do with a package.
Also, When talking about re-queening do you use seasons or calendar year(s)? Thanks

Requeening by many beekeepers is done on an yearly basis.  But then many feel that requeening solves most, if not all, beekeeping problems.  I've found that annual requeening is not necessary or realistic.  I requeen after 1st generation queens have outlived there usefulness.  Meaning I requeen on a 2 or 3 year cycle instead of annually.
