I got a new extractor from betterbee and I was wondering how it should be cleaned before the first extraction, to possibly remove any oils left over from manufacturing.

Thank you for your time,

I just use dishwashing detergent and hot water.  I also splash in a little bleach.  Be carefull about getting your head down in the drum with the fumes from the bleach.
I also have a fairly stiff brush.  I invariably end up with wax stuck everywhere during extracting.  I set the extractor out for the bees to clean up, then use cold water to spray off as much wax as possible.  Then hit it with the brush, hot water and detergent.

Soap and water is as good as any other soluction and much cheaper.  I use a 1 liter spray bottle with 1 tbsp of bleach in water as a sanitizer.
It is best to at least use a sanitizer again before using the equipment to avoid contamination.
