Approx 5 weeks ago I decided to try and raise my own new queen.  I followed insructions I read here about taking some frames of eggs and nurse bees from acouple of my strong hives.  Sure enuff, there were some queen cells (5 or 6) a week later when I checked.  And then they were empty or gone aweek or so after that.  this week when I checked, they was 2 frames of brood , larve , and eggs.  Plus,  3 more queens cells capped already.  WHY?  Are they going to supercede her already?  What should I do with the cells? leave them?  I am thrilled that could raise another queen but not sure what to do now as I'm not sure the new colony will make it thru our Michigan winter yet.  Use it to requeen one of my weaker hives? If so how?Combine with newspaper or kill old queen first and then combine hives.?

That's what I'd do.  Now is not the time to a new hive if you're using foundation.

If you have an ample supply of drawn comb left after from extracting you can feed a nuc enough to winter over.
