Someone may do it, but I have never heard that it was common practice.  I have never done it.  The honey would drain from all the cells you pulled the wires out of.

George always asserted that anything he did was common practice. Period. I remember someone asking about whether the wire would tear open cells and he said he never worried about it as he usually put his comb in jars with honey anyway
