50 plus year old extractor

I have an opportunity to purchase an old 4 deep frame tangential extractor. The bottom of the basket is all rusted and inside the drum is rusty especially at the bottom and sides near the bottom. The price is right but I lean toward not getting it because of all the rust. Are my reservations justified? Could it have any antique value? Thankyou in advance.

Is there any way you can remove the rust with cleaning or can the basket be replaced? Is the manufacturer still in business? Does it work otherwise?

Also, depending on how much you need to put into it, to get it into safe, working order, it may be wise to just buy a new one or newer used one. Don't know about the antique value, seems 50yrs is not that antique, if it was say 60yrs or more I'd say perhaps so.

It seemed to spin real easily and I did not see a mfr name on it. She said they bought it used and did bees for 35 years. I really do not want to put the time into it that I think it needs but it would be nice to avoid the cost of new.

Maybe you could clean the rust off and CamCoat the inside.

IF the tank is galvanized pass on it if its stainless you shoundnt spend any more than a used settling tank -not much good for anything if it is galvanized RDY-B

Yes, it is galvanized and I do plan to pass on it. I have since been told that galvanized is even illegal. Do not know and it does not matter at this point since I have decided to let it go. Thanks to all for your input.

I have a large galvanized extractor powered by an electric motor. The inside of the extractor is coated with Cam Coat so the honey does not have contact with the galvanized metal so I would assume it is now a legal extractor.

Cleaning up the rust with a little Naval Jelly and then Camcoating it might work.

I have a 1920 extractor! My friend is a welder and we made a thing so now its a 35 frame radial extractor and it works great. If you can find a good welder he can make it brand new for you.
