Stuff like this makes me MAD!!! :-x I would not imagine this happening. I actually felt more sorry for the bees than the beekeeper.

wonder what makes him sure it's people and not critters?

Well...let's see....no reports of bears in Randolph County since the NC Zoo moved into town. That was 1974??? There are alot of 4-wheelers that are rode around that area. Unless there are some doped up squirrels I would be hard pressed to believe this would be blamed on Mother Nature. JMO

A guy hear had some kids jump his 8' fence and tried to take the tops off of the hives. They did not last very long in the area. Bees can fight back!

I heard they had hard winds gust that weekend and that little area doesn't look well protected from the wind, it just looks like they were blown over because it looks like one tall hive is still standing in the back ground and all hives seem to be knocked over in the same direction from the pictures...... they could have been kicked over by people but why leave one standing when you knocked over all the rest...... just my 2 cents!!!!!!

From local news, Hive damage due to teenagers on 4 wheelers.

My hives are right out in the open with just a brick on them. Not even full of hoeny. One hive has nothing in it without a brick on it. wind blew 45 mph last Sunday. Still standing. Go figure. But seriously, wouldn't the raccoon or bear try to get the honey out of the frames??? I guess an ol' timer who has been doing this for practically his life would make the mistake of the wind blowing over some hives and bears vs. vandalism. I go with the crazy old guy. Now I am done. I will leave it alone.  :-D

It would be nice to know what the weather conditions were prior to the hives being found "vandalized."  I agree, it looks more like wind damage.  I lost all my hives last winter due to high winds and the hives look more like bluster buster than critters.  Besides critters would have left more damage than just tipped over bee hives,  such as broken frames and boxes and eaten combs.  Still human damage can't be ruled out because it resembles tombstone tipping so well.

Hi!
This question has been bugging me for awhile.
When a hive is blown over, do you just set it back upright and hope for the best? I anticipate this eventually happening to me as sometimes we get 65 to 80 MPH winds where I live.

I have one cinder block on each hive and have managed to make it through 70 mph winds, and I'm out in the wide open. No hills or trees. Put two blocks on and you will never have to worry.

Top this one: 2 days ago I made a casual inspection of my hives and noticed a bullet hole though the bottom super of one hive. Almost certainly a .50 cal black powder ball (actually detected a small trace of powder stained lubricant around the hole). Only 2 explanations - a "miss" that unfortunately hit my hive or an intentional act of idiotic vandalism. It pierced the corner at an angle so hopefully only penetrated 2 or 3 frames at most. Either way it's the final straw in my attitude toward hunting around here. I'm a gun owner/collector and a hunter myself but the instances of irresponsible gun use near our farm on a year round basis is mind blowing.

fcderosa

I let the Hunters onto my property for the first time last year, I had one hive stolen on opening weekend, and ended having to clean up plastic bottles all over the place.  This year it returned to myself and immediate family and had no ploblems.

I use to have problems with ATVs and Gators.  I put three hives right at their farvorite turn around point - end of problem.  The Kids never listened to the old man on the hill, could care less about his dogs but they didn't mess with the bees.  The parent latter approached me and commented how concerned he was about his kids getting stung.  My reply; you're kids don't belong on my property, they won't listen to me but if they're wise they won't mess with those bees.  We then walked out to the hives , me wearing Tshirt and shorts and said see, there's nothing really to be afraid of, but if one of those kids hit one of the hives with their ATVs, my bets on the bees.   :)

I have never had any problems here in florida with vandelism but my mentor keeps loosing a hive here and there from one paticular yard due to someones sticky fingers.  I do have problems with tresspassing on my property and have also place hives at key area's to detour the tresspassing. I also keep a couple on my porch by the steps to keep unwanted vistors away.

We  had this problem here in south Louisiana but the hives were burned also.No one has been caught! :-x

in one of my sites i had honey frames stolen from some boxes.  i now tell everyone around that my bees are vicious.  maybe they will think twice before trying to steal come this honeyflow.  it really sucks when you get to the site and see the covers off and the frames inside all in disarray and the bees agitated.

LocustHoney

Wow!! Didn't realize the extent to which people would go. I told my wife that we are moving the bees indside the house on our vacations!!! :-D Didn't go over too well.

Understudy

I have not had any hives vandalized. I did have a Racoon tip one over. The racoon hasn't done it since.

Perhaps putting signs up that read " Vicious, aggressive bee study, these bees will sting, enter at your own risk". would deter those would be thieves. I agree, the pics in the newsclip look like hives that were blown over.
