Today I checked 11 hives at my main beeyard and gave honey frames to the hives that needed extra which was just a few. So I am happy and less stressed that I gave them a good looking over and added some honey supers to  5 of them. Anyway here's a few pics, hope ya'll enjoy them. http://picasaweb.google.com/pyxicephalus/MyMainBeeyardFebruary252008

JP, what a beautiful place to store your bees.  They must be in a little piece of glory with those fields of clover.  The one picture of the long field of clover particularly caught my eye, so peaceful, so lovely, and I like what looks to me like a golf cart, which I had something like that.  Thanks for all the pictures that you bring here for us to see, have a wonderful and awesome day, lovin' our life.  Cindi

Yes Cindi that is a golf cart. My friend has two at his house and when the field is too wet for me to drive my truck to the hives I use the golf cart. Wait until the trees on the edges start to bloom, lots of chinese tallow, I will have pics, you know it!!!

JP, that Chinese Tallow tree you speak of caught my interest enough that I googled it and came up with some information.  It sounds like the bees would go nuts on the flowers, although the article didn't mention them.  Can't wait to see the pictures.  The flowers clusters looked very much like the long strands of the cottonwood flower clusters, (is that what they are called, for pete's sake, Ann help me out here).....have a wonderful and awesome day, beautiful life.  Cindi

Look at the information, it speaks of the seeds being the third most productive vegetable-oil-bearing seed crop, therefore useful in production of biodiesel.  Wow!!!  Who is it here that runs their farm machinery on vegetable oil?  Remember something about that but can't remember who, any ideas on who it is????

Triadica sebifera, also referred to as Sapium sebiferum, is commonly known as the Chinese tallow tree, Florida aspen and Popcorn tree. Introduced to the United States, the tree is native to eastern Asia, and is most commonly associated with eastern China, Taiwan, and Japan. In these regions, the waxy coating of the seeds is used for candle and soap making, and the leaves are used as herbal medicine to treat boils. The plant sap and leaves are reputed to be toxic, and decaying leaves from the plant are toxic to other species of plant. The specific epithets sebifera and sebiferum mean "wax-bearing" and refer to the vegetable tallow that coats the seeds.

It is the second or third most productive vegetable-oil-bearing seed crop in the world, after oil palm and algae, therefore useful in production of biodiesel.
