Am really glad to find a forum on such a great hobby.

Looking forward to having a good look around the place - looks like there is a mountain of info here.

A bit about myself :

Im 37, married, and have a little boy who has just turned 1. I work as an automation technician in a food factory - mainly work on high speed machinery electronics and robots - that sort of stuff.

I watched my father and helped him keep bees for most of my childhood when I was living at home with him and mum. Dad's small hobby grew to the point where he had around 70 hives. He has knocked that down to around 10 at his house for now, and is the local bee and wasp remover.

He has a nice 9 frame motorised extractor (which is better than the hand operated 2 framer I cut my teeth on!!!) these days, that I used on my last holiday to see him - what a machine :)

Yea, so I am wanting to get myself a small setup to get started. Just a few hives for my property would be pretty cool. Id also like to make a few things (extractor / wax remover etc) and 'high tech' them (cant help myself)  :-D

Would love to meet anyone in the local area for experience/advice etc. Looking forward to being involved on the forum.

Cheers.

Robbo  :)

Robbo, welcome to our forum.  How nice that you told us a little bit about yourself and family.  You must have had a wonderful mentor, you are now going back to the cobwebs of your mind, to retrieve information that your Father taught you about the bees.  You are very fortunate that you had that experience, and you are going back to it.  You were captive under the spell of that honeybee many years ago, that is shining through now.

You said when you go on a vacation to visit your Dad......is presume that he lives somewhere some distance from you.  Is it possible that he makes some nucs for you?  Tell us how you are going to get your bees.  You will find this forum a wonderful place to lean on people to answer your questions, you will tell us your adventures too, it is a learning place here, and a place to tell our stories.  I am the nosiest of us all (everyone knows that, hee, hee), and I love to read the tales of our forum friends.  Have that beautiful day and welcome.  Cindi
There are strange things done in the midnight sun by the men who moil for gold.  The Arctic trails have their secret tales that would make your blood run cold.  The Northern Lights have seen queer sights, but the queerest they ever did see, what the night on the marge of Lake Lebarge, I cremated Sam McGee.  Robert Service
