Package transport

Hello all.  I should be getting my packages soon.  Trouble is my van is making a strange noise and I guess we will be taking the car.  Is it okay to transport my bees in the trunk?  I am getting 2 packages and it is about a 2 hour drive.

I'd prop the trunk open and bungie it down so they get plenty of air.  They can overheat easily in the trunk.  Actually I'd put them on the seat beside me... but that's me.  The floor in the back seat should work fine too.

i carry mine in the back seat on the floor.  even if there is a stray, they don't bother.

I put mine in the floor in the cab of the truck with me when I braught them home .  No problems .

Mine rode home in a cardboard box on the back seat for 3 hours.  The big thing is to keep them cool for the duration of the trip, which AC is very handy for.  Get all the things you want to do, done before you pick up, and make sure that you get in a pit stop as well, then drive your babies home.  :)

Mine rode home in the back of the trailblazer.  Some extra hitched a ride but stayed with the packages of bees then followed us to the beeyard & their new homes!

Thanks for the replies.  Now, if they would only call me to get them.  Tues. will be 3 weeks late.

Just pop them in the back seat,,,even if you have a few bees on the(outside) of the package they will not bother you they will stay close to thier queen.

i picked up 13 packages at Brushy Mountain last Saturday in the Civic (5 for me and the rest for others). We put the back seat down and loaded them in the trunk and on the back seat. So its all open to the inside of the car. We blasted the ac and they quieted down nicely for the 1 3/4 hour trip home. The roads down Brushy Mountain are very winding and so are the ones around here so we went pretty slow so no packages flopped over.

I got thirty the other day in the back of the minivan.  He asked me if I wanted the stragglers vacuumed off.  I said I'd take all the stragglers I could get.  More bees for me.

If you're worried about ventilation issues in the trunk and don't want them inside with you, why not strap them to the top like Grandma?
