I installed my bees last Saturday, and have not yet checked that my Queens have been released from their cages.  I had planned to do that yesterday (Wednesday) but yesterday, today and possibly tomorrow the weather is high winds (up to 60km winds) so I don't want to open up the hives.  I just want to check that its ok to leave alone until Saturday when the weather is supposed to be 28c and more settled.

After my concerns on Monday over one quiet hive, both hives have since been active and seem fine on the outside, so from the outside looking in I've no reason to be concerned.  With winds these strong I'd rather not open them up if I don't have to.  The Queens were fine when we installed and were in their cages with a little marshmallow.

Still no pollen in the area so bees are being fed patty/ syrup.

Hi Janemma,
I think you will probably be ok if you have to wait to check your hives.  The weather there doesn't seem to be cooperating anyway.  The biggest lesson I learned my first year was that the bees didn't really need all the help I was trying to give them!  However I know how hard it is to leave them alone.  This is my third year beekeeping and I still have to stop myself from checking them every day! :)

I agree, they are more than likely fine.

Thanks everyone.  I think I knew this - I guess I just need the reassurance from those of you more experienced.  Thanks for replying :)

I used to live in a different part of the freezer, Fairbanks, Alaska
Now I live in the "Oven".....Texas!

I'm hoping to move to the oven in about 3 years :)  Well, maybe Atlanta or Phoenix (ideally Florida!)  but we have to renovate the money pit first and then persuade someone to buy this place first - anyone want to buy somewhere that looks like something out of a Stephen King novel????  lol j/k ;)

Oh and we have to hope that America lets us in ;)

johnnybigfish

hah!..
Speaking of Stephen King....I'm reading another one ..its called Duma Key...Pretty good so far!

Good point--as you may be aware it is much easier to get into the States through the southern border--No ID required although the coyote can be expensive.
Life is a school.  What have you learned?   :brian:      The greatest danger to our society is apathy, vote in every election!
