>Those 'cups' have pollen in them I notice - would that be normal for supercedure cells?

No.  A queen cell would have an egg, or larvae and royal jelly in it (white creamy food).

Which is what I thought - and yet - specifically the top one in the picture I posted, is full of (what appears to me at least to be) pollen.

I looked in on my bees today and saw something that looked like your strange cells but mine are all capped. And theres a big patch of them on just one frame. I also pulled a frame out with a few queen cells,(peanuts) eggs, and larva in it with a few more normal frames to make a split. I assumed the bigger capped cells in my case were drone cells, but I've never seen them before in any of my other checks since last spring.
One other thing.....there was a tiny, skinny worm(sort of like a tiny inch worm except he crawled instead of inched) crawling around in one cell...I mashed it and didnt see any more of them in the hive...he was white with dark little eyes.
So, whatta ya think?
