BEEKEEPING SCHOLORSHIPS

I have been assigned the responsibility of developing criteria for NJBA to provide scholorships for beekeepers. Mostly for new beeks, but anything is on table. Soo,,

what criteria do you think is important for awarding a scholorship?
How would you set-up program?

I'm going to take the high road here and say it before anyone else.

Bribes. I think the scholarships should be for sale to the highest bidder.

Available only to NJBA Members and their immediate family or to Students enrolled in Agricultural/ Insect Biology/Entomology Curriculum at Rutgers or other sanctioned state colleges or schools of higher learning.
I'd like to see this scholarship for obvious reasons go to individuals who can prove their dedication to this field, maybe a 500 word essay on why they want this scholarship.

i'd go for younger kids. FFA or 4H. also, maybe, a geezer scholarship? seems many start beekeeping later in life, but funds could be an issue.

is the scholarship to encourage beekeeping, or to encourage learning?

That's my question - what is the purpose of the scholarship? To get as many people started as possible? To give a little push to one person that might go on in research and teaching and be a champion for beekeeping?

The parameters haven't been set yet. Mostly, to get new people involved, and educated. Everything is on table. Two scholorships initially.

Why not do one of each, one for education (learning-teaching) and another hands on for such groups as FFA, 4H, etc.

No, you learn to keep bees by degrees--it's called a learning curve.
