I have a bait hive up in a pine tree.  I have the synthetic lure in the nuc that I am using.  Today, I noticed about 8 bees checking it out.  Will bees from my other hives be checking out this nuc, or are they scout bees from a hive that swarmed.  How many scout bees will be at the potential new location at the same time?  How long will they stay before going back to the swarm and telling the others?

So basically what I want to know is:  Is it time to get the camera ready?

Thanks.

Some of your own bees could check the trap out as I find bees are just plain curious as to new things/odors.

Scouts may come and go, a few days you may see them, a day or two you may not. I've caught them soon after they discovered the trap and other times up to two weeks afterwards.

Look for steady increases as to when to have the camera ready but swarms move in pretty quickly, so catching them in the act can be difficult.
