In the south, should you or how offten should you inspect your hives in the winter.
Acts2:37: Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
38: Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39: For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
40: And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation

define "winter"   :-D

It hardly gets below freezing where I live and our winter is only a couple of months - Dec, Jan - maybe mid-Feb.

What part of Texas do you live in?

You don't want to open up the hives if it is too cold and let out all the heat, but you want to check to make sure they have enough honey stores if the weather is good.

I only peeked at mine a couple of times last winter but it was my first year so I am still a noob.

Rule of thumb I use is don't take the top off a hive on any day that you wouldn't want the roof taken off your house. this works for me in winter spring summer and fall
never take the top off a hive on a day that you wouldn't want the roof taken off your house

I have also heard it best to wait until the temperature is above 50 degrees, which is not hard to do with our winters down here.
