Bees eating polystyrene pics

You could actually hear them chewing on the foam, a scratching noise. You can see the initial cavity they created, I turned the block of foam around to see if they would do it again and they did! The row of bees infront of the entrance is trying to eat away where it joins the super. You can see new cavities on the top and also some bees chewing away.

The hive is on some 4x2 on top of a wooden pallet, about 4 inches off the ground. You can see some wax I placed at the entrance and they were more interested in the polystyrene.

They have had this doorstep for over a year. I ditched it, they have to crash land now. In the pics the drop from the hive to the foam is just because I put it there to see what would happen, it used to be dead level with the hive.





Maybe it was affecting the wind currents at the entrance, maybe they didnt like it anymore, maybe they just like the taste, or it resembles pollen? Who knows! Id appreciate what you blokes think.

Beats me Mick. Can't for the life of me imagine why they would be doing that. Dumping the styro was probably the best thing to do
