I will be Picking up 2 nukes in the next few days and starting my learning experience.My supplier has one of the best reputations in this field. I'm sure I will be asking my share of questions.I have been to a beginning class and reading everything I can but I have no mentor.

does your supplier treat his hives? at some point you will have to treat if he does, but not till the queen has laid for a while , are you a member of the local club?

The nearest club I can find is 40 miles away and I did not know to ask that question about treating.
The nucs are comeing from David Miksa in Groveland who is a leading breeder of hygentic stock.
Unless I find a mentor in Ocala then reading and this site will will be my teacher.Thanks for responding.

What is the logic behind having to treat if the supplier did? If the bees aren't sick,they shouldnt need to be treated.

I'm set up for sugar water and was going to check with David about megabee.
I talked with him tonight and they should be ready for pick up this weekend.
He calls it a nuc but it is a 9 frame medium with bottom board and outer cover.
Thanks for keeping eye on me.

The answers will vary and you may be confused at times but beekeeping is sometimes confusing, but hang in there and enjoy the ride, its all worth it!

more than likely if the parents of the hives he gets were treated then the children will need to be treated it follows the genes, it is a safe and cautionary statement, based on percentages, and I was referring mainly to Varroa. Eight years ago I learned that the hard way.
