Jumbo Hives ? (What are they?)

The other day I came across a term that I wasn't familiar with..... "Jumbo Hives".  The term was just very briefly mentioned in an article, but the article itself did not explain the term.

A) Is there such a thing as a Jumbo Hive?   (Assuming that is is deliberately created and not just an accident or freak occurrence.)

B) Why would you want to create Jumbo Hive?  (Is there a purpose for creating one?)

C) How is a Jumbo Hive created?

It could have reference to something like a double queen hive...

That is where you take 2-3 deeps with one queen, place a queen excluder on top, then another complete hive with queen on top of that one... Supers go on top of the second hive.

They can get REALLY tall... and are touted as developing more honey than 2 hives separate... But I would rather not use a crane/ladder to mess with full honey supers. And it makes inspection of the bottom hive nearly impossible....

One professional beekeeper here has jumbo frames that he can winter colony in one box.
Frame size is 1,5 langstroth.

What is jumbo hive? - who knows...

Yes but it can be wintered in 2 box too if colony is so big.

The box is 19 7/8" by 19 7/8" and 11 5/8" deep and holds 12 frames that are 11 1/4" each.  Often called a Dadant Deep.

I know a guy that has a milk barn full of dadant deeps. He didn't have anything good to say about them, other than "you want some hive bodies?"

They are great except for two things.  You don't want to ever lift them and you can't interchange frames with your supers...

 But not all  Jumbo Hive boxes are deeps but all are 12  frame equipment.

I do have some 12 frame deeps (as opposed to Dadant deeps) and have heard the term applied to them, but the orignal "jumbo" was 12 Dadant Deeps...
