I want to intruduce a new queen to hive that I seem to killed out the queen, or over split and took the queen away. :( But I do have a queen to put in. I have an old queen cage with candy in one end becuz I usually let them out after a few days. Would the candy be bad. or can I use that cage over again. were talking less than a year old , no mold no anything but the candy is pretty hard. I mean I can still just do a release but wondered about any side effects. And wondered if the bees could still eat there way thru.

Sounds like it is still good. If its really hard, pop a small nail or pin through it to give them a start.

You're welcome Al. Just out of curiosity, was this cage kept in the fridge?

Did that little queen start laying in the queen rearing nuc? If so, kewl. Is she fat now?

Someone just talked about using marshmallows for the candy plug.

Shouldn't be a problem if the candy has turned hard.  I use jelly beans sometimes in a pinch.  They're pretty tough on the outside.
