I took my inter cover and notched out a  hole for a top entrance and ventilation  and I'm going to put a one in. piece of insulation on top that and the tel.cover.
As soon as i take off my feeders.
Plus I put mouse guards on the bottom entrances.
I'm going to wrap them little later. I'm still feeding them as far  as yesterday they where eating 1/3 of a gallon of 2=1 syrup a day . I have 3 healthy hives going into winter and sure hope they make it.
What's everyone think?
Thank you.

I think top ventilation is a good idea, but you didn't give any details as to the kind of notch you put in the inner cover.

I've notched my inner cover on all my hives, by carving a quarter inch slot in the lamination of the plywood.  I've left a layer of wood at the top to allow for insulation.  The bees will chew on it if it's accessible.

IMO its a great idea.  Top entrances are effective for ventilation control and bees like them, especially in areas w/ 'real' winters.

I'm also down to three healthy colonies going into winter.  Good luck.
