Thoughts and ideas for uncapping knives; electric or serrated? Pierce-Mieras?

I use an electric knife.  I will try a plane next time because my wrist gets sore after a day of uncapping with the knife.

A word to the wise your having a capping scratcher is a must.  Get those low spots in the comb you can't get with a knife or planer.  Of course if you watch the video in the link to the other thread you'll see what I mean.

I wish I had the link handy to the Russian/European uncapping setup with the steamheated vee shaped stationary knife you run the frame over.  I am going to have a metal shop build one of those.  Look for it on youtube.

Now that is a cool set up.  Easy and not very costly.   I bet to could make an electric knife (or 2 of them) that would work in that way.   And extracting right in the bee yard.   Cool video.

I would like any more details you have on making this. Is the "knife" just some steel that you have sharpened?

The one in your pictures seems to be steam operated? How did you make it to run on 12V?

Just thought I'd mention that if you uncap during daylight hours outside you do run the risk of drawing bees in, particularly during a dearth. Been there done that, never again!  :-D

Please post plans!  I think this is a better mousetrap.  I would steam heat it though.  I see advantages of the one you are using.  Is it better than the one with a wooden frame in many of the you tube videos?  Thanks Mr Spomenko

Good point to bring up and remember.   In the Russian video, they were in a screened tent of sorts.  Some were still getting in, or still in the supers, but it looked like it was working.   I still get bees in the house if I don't freeze the supers first.   

I would like to see how on would get the heating element on the bottom of the v blade.   12 volt or 120 volts.   I think it would be easier/ faster than the knife.

A 12 volt Cigarette lighter gets pretty darn hot :shock:

A 12 V is a different NOZ.
With both sides at the same time frame opens like a saw.
