Snow Drones!

In my experience I have not found this to be true. I run fully insulated hive covers and have not seen the bees come out in colder weather with the cover than with out. In spring when the weather
warms however it seams the outside temp needs to get a bit warmer then normal for them to fly. This happens because of the lack of solar gain.

Not sure what kind of nest that was, many confuse wasps with hornets and even bees, but I've been harvesting paper wasp nests for years without any problems, just have to take them after a few hard freezes and they're fine. 

I used to sell the big ones to tourists who'd hang them above fireplaces and whatnot,  Never once got a call back complaining their home filled up w/ wasps or hornets.  Wasp and hornet nest are pretty harmless after a couple hard freezes. 

Maybe it just doesn't get cold enough  to kill them by you.  Only the queens survive winters up here and they try to find someplace underground.
