**My question is, how do they know when the flies laid their parasitic eggs? How do they know it wasn't after the bees died **

because the bees turn into zombees-and fly at night towards light--also wander amlisly in circles
they find sick bees and test them --also i think the larve needs a live host to transform from egg

I thought perhaps it could be like other fly larvae--the eggs get laid on a corpse and hatch while it decomposes...

And...other factors could FIRST be causing the other weird symptoms. Not trying to argue here, just trying to figure out how they feel them know what came first, the symptoms or the parasitic fly.
The pedigree of honey

Is aristocracy.

Zombie insects have been around awhile. I actually thought that fungi would be a better candidate than another insect causing such problems.

Here is a fascinating video about ants and thousands of other insects. Listen closely and you realize they leave the nest, or are carried away, and react how you might imagine bees with CCD would act.
