Uncapping the easy way, or is it?

Just happened across this video.  If it works it would save a lot of time uncapping and money not having to buy a hot knife.  My first thought was that the wax would just melt back into place after it cooled.

Has anyone tried this?  If so what are your thought?

Was it just me or was there not a lot of uncapped honey on those frames?  Guess that makes it easy-peazy.

will the heat gun get the honey to hot and ruin it though, or should it be fine because that looked great but to good to be true.

I think I would have let the bees work more on those frames... too much uncapped for me.

Interesting method of uncapping though.

I was curious about the same thing... I posted a note on the video, and the video owner sent me a prompt message back saying: "Yes, they are full of rape seed which need to be removed promptly, or is will crystallise in the frames which is a major problem here in the uk"

Wonder what that green globs were that was floating in the honey around 3:45?

I have seen several people using it over here. there are several on youtube. pretty good idea. just have to be sure you have a heat gun that can very the temp. if it is to hot and you hold it in one spot to long you run the risk of melting the comb to much and distorting the frame. makes a lot of work for the bees and some times they won't us it anymore. some may like it some may not to each their own. I like to cut off the capping using a knife in boiling hot water. because i collect the capping wax for lip balms. ( whiter  wax).if you don't have the time or don't want the wax go for it.

I looked at the comments on YouTube. One person pointed out that the melted wax is now mixed with the honey, perhaps giving it an off taste.

(Would increase the honey yield though!)

Looks like it works well on dry capt honey, but on wet capt or when the capping wax is depressed or in direct contact with the honey the cells were not melted or opened properly.

Also with the air gun you will blow all air born particles and dust into the honey  :-X :-X

Same thing with the extractor , smells nice with honey aroma in the room, nice breeze blowing from the extractor, BUT, if its blowing air and flavor out , its also sucking air, dust, debris in , CLOSE THE LID  :rulez:
