BlueBee

Might consider putting a willow or two in your tree-less yard.  Bees get a lot of pollen from the willows in the early spring (March) to create new baby bees for the nectar flow.  Willows grow well in Michigan.  Not the most attractive looking trees, but the bees like them.

Funny that you mention Willows BlueBee!  My wife already wanted to plant a Willow tree back there because she actually loves how they look.  I also want to plant a Tulip Tree (Poplar) back there as well.  We had one at our previous house and I just loved that tree.

Put a black locust with the willow and tulip poplar and you will have the the nectar trifecta
