Hi, I am wanting to make some jar feeders for my new hives.  I was wondering how many holes should I put in the lids.  Should the in tire lid be full of holes, or should there be just a few in the center?

I put several small holes in mine, i copied a bought one.

I use about six evenly spaced holes punched a half inch in from the edge of the lid with the tip of a drywall screw.

If you just want to feed them use 1 hole. If you want them to store the syrup use several.

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

And 1/16 of an inch holes.

Some people have lids with both lots of holes and few holes for different purposes.  In the fall when you're trying to get them to suck down the syrup and store it a lot of holes helps.  In the spring when you're just trying to stimulate them without backfilling the brood nest, a few holes works better.
