should i get a shallow medium or deep super. i have an eight frame hive. also what size frames?

A swarm of bees in May is worth a load of hay; A swarm of bees in June is worth a silver spoon; A swarm of bees in July isn't worth a fly.

Just how big of a boy are you?

I run shallows for honey supers.

I am old school. Deeps for brood and shallows for honey. There are benefits to running the same size for brood and honey.

If you have langstroth broods, medium supers are good.
But you need extra Langstroth frames too tp renew the brood frames, to make nucs, to take swarms and to compesate ruined combs.

So you need langstroth super wher they draw foundations for later usage.
You need to lift black combs over the exluder to take off  old combs.

And for many other reasons...

. How many boxes you have now in the hive?
