I was reading that taking out the outer 2 frames, from a 10 frame hive, and replacing them with dummy boards will insulate the hive and add ventilation to hive. Doing this is said to increase the health of the hive. Just wanted to see if anyone could second that?

I planned on removing my 2 outside frames this winter and replacing them with foam insulation the same size. I thought it was an original idea but I guess it isn't.
I have heard that 8 frames winter better than 10 becuase the outside frames aren't used but it depends who you talk to. I'll let you know how it goes next April but I don't think it could hurt.

I fugured this would be a way to have the advantages of both 8 & 10 frame equipment.

Seems like it would work for insulation but not sure of ventilation. Kind of makes sense just not sure figured I would get some feedback.
