I have just started beekeeping again after many years. I had a couple of hives in California then moved to Washington state. Its been 15 years and I am now on an acre in a pretty rural town so I figured I'd start again. In California, bee keeping seemed easy as the bees worked 11 months out of the year. Here in the Pacific Northwest not so much. I have a lot to learn. I started a nuc around Memorial Day and in 4 weeks they had filled out the box. We have a pretty good flow as the wild blackberries bloom. Last weekend I added the 2nd deep and this weekend went out to check them and that box is 1/3 built out already! They are going like crazy. Was told by the guy I got the nuc from that its rare to harvest honey the first year up here, well at this rate I should be honey boxes on by August and should have 2 months of honey to harvest. I guess over wintering is difficult up here but if they survive I will add another hive next spring and keep going till I have 4 hives.
Anyway hello to you all and I am glad to be keepin bees again!

Welcome to the forum, Dhart, and welcome back to beek.  Sounds like they are doing fine.  Good luck to you and your bees.

Welcome to the forum, and back to bee keeping! Sounds like you are off to a roaring start.

I can't imagine wintering up there being that tough, compared to wintering them over here anyway.

Well welcome to the forum my friend! I started last year down her in south Louisiana and had the notion I would do a few hives too but now I have about 15.  :-D Folks began asking me to remove and making the extra money from that to buy supplies work out well. Have not had to invest any personal monies out of family funds so works out well and love the honey. Just harvested my first honey a couple weeks back and last year was a build up year and set backs due to losses from hurricane but was not too pumped about my harvest as with removals I harvested about 30 gals last year. I am not sure when to say quit on how many hives I will have. Folks keep calling and just did two removals past couple days. Well all I can say is I'm hooked!  :-D

Quit being hopelessly lost

The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
More to be desired are they than gold, yea ,than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
