I know them ol boys from Louisiana can easily top this story but it's a first for me. I did a cut out yesterday evening. I went over to an electrical plant. When the guy called me he said they had some bees on a cardboard box. Thinking it was a swarm I ask how long had they been there. They said a while and they had a couple inches of comb drawn. I'm still thinking swarm. They had left a card board box laying by the fence. It was probably 4' high, 3' long and 18" wide. It had been rained over a few times so the weight of it being wet made the box bend inwards and create a 45 degree angle on one side. Well some silly honey bees went right under the bend and made a hive. It was pretty much an open air hive on two sides. The comb was white so I'm sure they hadn't been there but a month or so. They had just go another rain so all I had to do was pull the white comb loose from the wet paper. Easy peasy. They were very low on stores. I saw some brood but not much food. They're eating fine now :) Back to 18.

One thing I couldn't help but think about. All those hours spent building swarm traps worrying about the right size, place, space, smell, comb, ect, ect, and they choose the outside of a bent over cardboard box.

That's cool, congrats.

Hope I get one next year, swarm that's not mine, that is. I don't think I want to get into one of those cut outs, where its 100° and half the walls come out.
