What do you fine people use to fasten your boxes together? I usually hand nail my home made boxes but I just picked up a used ( $5 score!)  18 gauge 1/4 inch crown stapler. Do you think a 1/4 inch staple will hold ok? (Also using titebond)

I use 16 ga. 2" brads with glue.

no, 1/4 inch isn't nearly enough.

Rich what length staple will your stapler shoot.    18 gauge, is size of wire, 1/4 inch crown is the width, I have one that shoots 1 inch and 1 that shoot up to 1 1/2 inch length.  I use the 1 1/2 inch for hive box and 1 inch for frames.

I use 1 1/2" narrow crown staples for box joint supers as well, no problems at all. I use screws for rabbeted supers but staples may well do the job as well, just haven't tried it.
1" staples make putting frames together an absolute dream. Fast, easy and no more hammered fingers

I was going to use 1 1/2..... sounds like they work fine!

I recommend that you use a good wood glue with the staples. Depending on your weather, eventually the staples will rust out. The glue will not.
You want the glue on the flat grain to flat grain. Wood glue is stronger than the wood on flat grain but very weak on end grain.

Jim, I use TiteBond II

I glue all joints with Tite Bond II and brad nail them with 18 ga. 1 1/4 inch brad nails.
Once the glue drys it won't go anywhere.
The nails basically act as a clamp to hold the joints in place while the glue dries.
I have boxes 8 years old put together this way.
