They Swarmed

My hive swarmed this morning.  It's the first time I've seen a swarm form up.  Spectacular!

They are up in a tree in the yard not far above the mother hive.

Hoping they will choose one of the three bait hives here.

Well, it looks like they moved on.

They did not pick one of my bait hives -- perhaps they were too close.

It's sad to lose that beautiful Cordovan queen that was so prolific.  All her children are big and healthy.

We'll see what her daughter does, eh?

If the weather plays nice, you should end up with another great queen from the line.

My best colony just requeened this year and has a ROCKSTAR queen.  So good in fact that after only two weeks from when she started laying, she had a medium completely full, was working on a deep, and the colony was already making swarm cells.

Hopefully you'll have that same luck.

I am optimistic about that.  These bees have always been very healthy looking -- good genes, eh?
