What is a recipe for candy that you plug-up queen cages with?

sean

i think you use icing sugar and water. Just guessing but i guess use mix to a doughy consistency plug the hole and let harden.

I use leftover peeps  from Easter.  I just throw them in the freezer and grap a piece as I need it.

Unless you want to make a bunch, we were taught by our bee course instructor that marshmallows are probably the simplest.  I see Robo uses his kids candies....what a rip, what a guy eh?  (LOL)  Just kidding.  I had a hive that had swarmed, I saw them go, but couldn't get them, they went way way up in a tall cottonwood tree.   I used the marshmallow to fill up the end of the cage when I had a queen hatch out of a queen cell.  I had the queen cell in a baggie, along with a bunch of other queen cells I had cut out and she hatched in the baggie.  I stuff the marshmalllow in the end of the cage and put it back in the hive that had swarmed.  The queen must have been released OK because she was happily laying eggs when I checked her about 5 days later, so I guess it worked.

And this hive was much nicer to work with after the re-queening.  It was an odd sort of re-queening to say the least.  The swarm hive was a horrible, nasty temperamented hive and when I saw the swarm leave, I actually thought good riddence and was kind of glad that I couldn't catch it.  Great day.  Cindi

Karo corn syrup and confectioners sugar ,,,put powder sugar in a bowl and poor in syrup until it has a doe like consistency... I dont like marshmello's for plugs, I have heard a few bad experiences with new queen rearers shipping with marshmello's, I have never tried marshmello's and will never because this queen plug  recipe works fine  JUST REMEMBER YOU DONT WANT IT WET, ADD JUST ENOUGH SYRUP TO BOND THE POWDERED SUGAR TOGETHER!!!!
