A search of the members would turn up her profile.  Here's her site (http://beekeeperlinda.blogspot.com).  Do a search (http://forum.beemaster.com/index.php?action=search;advanced;search=) on crush and strain and you'll find all you need to know (and all that has been posted here).

When using this method should I cut all the comb out or just cut the center out and leave about an inch of comb all the way around.

Leaving a row or two of cells is better.

The bees can then use that as a starting guide.

Sometimes you can scrape it down to the foundation, leaving the foundation in the frame. I got some hives with wired in foundation from another retired beek and did it that way.

But no you don't need to leave an inch all the way around. Just a bit of wax on the top bar will work.
