Title: Bottom board & pollen trap issues
Post by: Flygirl on April 29, 2014, 03:31:13 AM
Hi Everyone-
I'm gearing up to put a pollen trap on one of my hives & tried to block the main entrance & train the girls to enter upstairs.  Unfortunately, the bottom board is warped so they are squeezing in under the wooden entrance reducer.  I tried to add wedges / shims so they can only enter the hive in the upper box through the inner cover but its not working. They manage to remove what I install or find crevasses to access the hive/box.

I'm wondering if I need to install a new bottom board or scrap the pollen trap this year?  Last fall, I was sort of remembering I needed to fix the bottom board or shore up the gaps.  I guess I was thinking I'd do it this spring- Opps!  Am I the only bee keeper who remembers things that need to be done at the hive?

Anyone have any fixes?  I don't want to use caulk- blah! :)

Ask a wood worker in your area to make a 3/4" by 3" by @ 14 3/4" (the width of your opening) board and replace the reducer with that board.

Don't you have duct tape in your town?   It works for everything.

Whats that someone said about duct tape and string theory both hold the universe together.
