So today was just one of those days. A good one. Since I set up the OB hive in the house I noticed that I would often come home and find my wife observing the hive, she would comment on what see noticed and such. I was very happy that she was taking an interest. Then the other day we were on a walk and noticed some bees on a bush. She commented that she was surprised that "our girls" were that far away. Anyway, today I was going up to the hives (we keep them about 30 miles away) to do some checking and see if I could get a queen or two marked etc. My wife surprises me by asking if she could go. I about fell off my breakfast chair.
This is a woman who freaks at the sight of a fly, let alone a bee that could sting. Anyway, we had the time of our lives. She helped as good as any helper could, smoked them, handed me stuff, she found the queen on the frame, we got her marked and everything. Like I said one of those days. We had a blast together, she was very comfortable, did not seem nervous. Of course I had her suited, gloved, booted, and veiled but she did great. Next thing you know it will be "get your own hives".
Pulled off a deep of pure honey today as well. I was very happy about that, and just so that I am right with Jesus and all. I am so sorry that I ever made fun of you all for talking about going to mediums. I used to think, I am a pretty young guy(39), so I will just stick with deeps no big deal.
Holly Freaking mother of all weight and density!!!! By time I got that super to the truck I thought I had died and gone to hell. That is one heavy bugger. No more teasing you old duffers that have to go to mediums cause your muscle density is shot..... Wait a minute, maybe I have become an old duffer with out noticing?? Nah!! That can't be it, my girls must just make very dense honey, thats it.
By the way, I am sure that everyone says this, but my honey if the best on this earth. I wish that these forum pages allowed you to taste my Desert Sage Honey, that is what we are calling it.  It is very dark, very creamy and has the most amazing after taste that kinda kicks in about 2 seconds after it hits your tongue. It almost has an apricot after taste... Wierd I know. But if any of you are interested I am selling this honey at $400,320 per 1lb bottle. Yea, its that good.  Anyway, do they have a pulitzer for Honey? I should get this stuff submitted soon if they do.
Ok, enough rambling I will post the pics of the wife and I as soon as I can find the camera.
Thanks to you all, I would not have had this day if it wasn't for the help, advice, friendship and everything else that you get from this group. You know what I mean.
Thanks all
Frantz

it's good when it comes together like that.  make sure your wife knows how much you appreciate the time together.  my husband amazed me in the same way.  busy guy.  hates getting stung, but now lives for swarm calls and cutouts.  even had the grandkids in the hive while i was gone!

i don't suppose you took some pics??  ;-)

Nice post, neighbor!  This old duffer errrr  young 63 year old, with 9 mediums almost full again,  had to laugh!  If you are ever in Ogden, it would be good to meet.  Farmers Market tomorrow??  It is a real good one.  Volker's Bakery shows up every Sat.  Bee well!!

Hmm, maybe I should put an ob hive in for my wife to warm up to bees...  it probably would warm her up to them, but she'd kill me first.  Isn't it great though when you can share hobbies like that?

Hi Frantz

You made me really smile, so I had to post to you.  It makes my heart light to hear a story like this.  I hope she enjoyed the day as much as you seemed to, and that she joins you again.  My husband does help me a lot, even he is the one who gets stung  :-P

I'll have you know I'm a codger in training aspiring to become a duffer! :-P
Everyone said it couldn't be done. But he with a chuckle replied, "I won't be one to say it is so, until I give it a try."  So he buckled right in with a trace of a grin.  If he had a worry he hid it and he started to sing as he tackled that thing that couldn't be done, and he did it.  (unknown)

Frantz, oh what a lovely little story, and that brought that sweet smile to my face.  Your Wife has come a long ways, that is clear.  Spending time doing something new together as a couple has a very wonderful flare to it.  Wonder what changed her mind, do you think it may have been that observation hive.  I am happy for that day, you and her spending some wonderful time together.  AND....look at the beautiful honey that you are getting.  Your life has been busy with your move and all, how do you find time?  Good for you.  Have that most beautiful, most wonderful day, more to come.  Cindi

A true curmudgeon of a beekeeper is one who has reduced his hives to medium nucs for everything.  Half the weight of half the weight.  If it weren't for my daughter (Beekeeper in training) I'd be at the curmudgeon stage already.

Brian, curmudgeon, what an interesting and great word, me likey.  I looked up the definition to get an entire scope of what it means.

You forgot the part where the curmudgeon's one saving grace is his sense of humor.  :D  ;D
