Chapter 131.001 of the Texas Agriculture Code...
3)  "Beekeeper" means a person who owns, leases, or
manages one or more colonies of bees for pollination or the
production of honey, beeswax, or other by-products, either for
personal or commercial use.

At least, in Texas, I AM a "BEEKEEPER"!!..NOT a "Beehaver".
At first, I was a little resentful of a few people here who considered people  such as myself, who are'nt very experienced at beekeeping, as "Beehavers" and not "Beekeepers". So, if I want to raise my bees in a 5 gallon bucket and feed them coke all summer, I am still a beekeeper! I think I can speak for you other guys here who felt belittled by thinking you were only beehavers...You are BEEKEEPERS, just like everybody else here, and dont let anybody tell you different.

your friend,
john :)

Better behave yourself, though, or those Texas cops gonna getcha, bad boy, bad boy, if you've been feedin' coke  ;)

I don't know about you, but I'm not putting either one of those on my resume'... I'm going to put:

"Production facility manager with experience managing over 1000 workers at a time.  Even with such a large span of control, workers were highly motivated and disipline was never much of a problem, although an occasional slap on the wrist was necessary."

:-D

I think the keyword is "manages", a lot of people do not understand the work involved in taking care of bees.  I had one guy tell me, oh bee's don't survive they are not worth having because they'll die off.  I simply told him you have to manage the hives not just put it out there and hope for the best.  I consider myself a beekeeper not a beehaver.  I admire anyone who becomes a beekeeper since it is work, just not everyone is educated enough to understand that.  Just my .02.

Hmmm I have a nephew who has been teaching for a lot of years now and he has a Masters Degree, he also has from one to a dozen hives every year. He only checks them occasionally, never medicates, and only extracts once a year. He thinks he is a beekeeper but maybe by some standards he is only a Bee Haver. Geezzzz maybe he needs to work on his Doctors so he will become a Beekeeper.

hey Eri, My buddy paul is the one who made me think of the coke part. His can basket is always full of bees! I dont know if the bees like beer sap or coke sap better. I have considered in the past about what this honey will taste like...I cant really tell so far as we extract his honey when i did mine :)

geez Sarge, I wish i'd a thought of that 25 years ago...Then again I should have been doing bees 25 years ago too!...Depence, you aint just a kiddin' about being alot of work sometimes. I pretty much "Clown Around" out here most the time but I hate to bring out the "work" aspect of dealing with the bees. The hardest part of working the bees for me is the HEAT!. I can wrench my back doing just about anything nowadays, but tearing my back out handling the bees is "Special"! And Irwin, I know what you mean...Just about everything there is to explain about bees seems to be right here. Sure, i read the bee books too and i really enjoy that, but its different here. In here, its like talking to the authors of bookS (Which in some cases its true!)
Nawww, Romahawk,..he's not a "beehaver"....he's just "LuckY" :-D..Maybe he's also just one of those people with the "Gift"!
ok,...gotta get more schooling on bees now!

lol i know what turns us into beehavers it's the opposite sex.  my g/f has ran me off the deep end and i can't get into my hives cause i know i'm all stressed out and gonna do more damage then good.  well it is looking like it's gonna be the bees or her dang i'm sure gonna miss her lol.  it is the truth though i've need to check mine for the last two weeks and i'm so on edge that i keep putting it off.  oooh well lookin' like she might become an ex g/f in the next few days and the two dozen phone calls a day wondering what i'm doing will stop lol.
Take me to the land of milk and honey!!!

I don't know about all that. My bees do just fine without me. It seems every time I mess with them is when something goes wrong. Just best to leave them alone. I mean they have been doing bee things for millions of years. A lot longer than I have.
