When you talk 2 to 1  mixture what are you really saying.  2 cups to 1 cup? Aren't dry measures different then liquid measures. I often wonder if I am doing this right. So far I've been using the cup ratio but maybe thats the wrong way to go about it.

It's as simple as that. Not rocket science.

The dry weight cup of sugar is almost the exact same weight as a the weight of a cup of water.  There isn't enough difference to worry about.  The ratios are always sugar:water.  Some like to measure EXACT weight.  The bees don't care about the exact measurement.  They fix it, dry it or wet it out to fit their needs anyway.  I have used 1:1 and 1:2 in the spring to try and stimulate brood rearing.  In the fall I have used 2:1 to minumize the work needed to dry it out for capping.
Everyone said it couldn't be done. But he with a chuckle replied, "I won't be one to say it is so, until I give it a try."  So he buckled right in with a trace of a grin.  If he had a worry he hid it and he started to sing as he tackled that thing that couldn't be done, and he did it.  (unknown)

If you want to be exact then its 6 pints sugar to 5 pints water for 1:1.
Since the density of sugar is not consistant this is about the middle of the differnces.

well here's the gist of it if you've ever baked weights are better to use they give a more exact formula.  but your keeping bees not making the perfect cake so just go with what your doing.  i haven't ever seen my bees refuse it when they needed it even if i was a little off.

True they will take it if they need it, or even if they don't.  A pint is the same weight and volume for both sugar and water (A pint's a pound the world around) so by mixing 1 gallon of water to 8 pounds of sugar = 5 pints of syrup.  I usually mix 5 pounds of sugar and the remaining volume in water in a 1 gallon container.  As Hankdog1 says..they won't refuse it.
