I have gathered about 2 pounds of wax so far and was wondering how to make starter strips?

Still waiting for my new queen to hatch....tap tap tap..  :-D

I don't know how to make it from scratch. I just order the wax foundation and cut it into strips and these strips I melt into the top frames with a wax tube fastener from Dadant Supply. Very easy.

I guess you will get some more info from others how to do this.

Take a one by pine board and cut it the length you want them.  Soak it in brine (take water and add salt until it won't dissolve anymore).  Melt the wax in a container large enough for the board (a turkey roaster works well and they often have a double boiler setup).  Dip the brine soaked board in the wax and let it start to congeal.  Dip it again and repeat the process until it's as thick as you like.  Let it cool.  Peel it off the board.  You'll have to cut the wax loose from the ends first.

But wood starter strips work just as well, last longer and aren't much work.

I will be making hand lotions in a few weeks. Been ordering needed supplies. Good use for the beeswax.

You have a good hand lotion recipe to use beeswax? How difficult is it?

I have not done this yet, but I copied many recipes off the internet. It seems very, very simple to me. Some recipes have more ingredients than others. Do a google search "making beeswax cosmetics".

You just melt a few items together and pour into a nice container.

You could seal your next hive with a wax and rosin finish rather than paint.  Haven't a clue how much wax that takes. :)

Thanks ALL,

Going to be working on all this woodware I bought from WV. Geez...so many frames I look like a major bee yard.

I think my neighbor is alittle worried too...18 Deeps...tons of supers all stacked up....hehe
