Help,
I lost my colony when I didn't requeen them soon enough and the opportunists moved in. I was able to save the frames, luckily. I would like to get bees again. Does anyone know who has package bees for sale, or preferably nucs in Central Florida? I live in Floral City, between Inverness and Brooksville.

JP

Dallas is up in Lake City, you should talk to him.

"Honey bees for sale / beekeeping lessons", from craigslist. Look in the Orlando section under bees. The seller is located in Clermont. He sells nuc's and hives. Only about 45 min. from you.

JP,
I'm sorry, I have no idea who Dallas is, or how to contact him.

Rast,
I wrote to the craigslist contact for more info. $80 seems a little pricey for a nuc. Or is that the going rate? Anyway, unless someone else is as close, the gas would cost the difference.

SgtMaj

I wouldn't think twice about $80 for a nuc... considering a package will run you about $60 now.

rast

$80 isn't that bad for around here. There's a beekeeper in Mabel on Hwy 50 that may sell a hive. I'll try to get his name for you tomorrow.
For Dallas look for a post or answer by PDMATTOX and pm him.

$80.00 is a very good price for a nuc, anywhere.

Chris Werner is the beekeeper in Mabel, actual address is Webster. Are you sure you want to start a nuc this time of the year? Spanish needles and primrose willow may sustain them.

I make up nucs year round and will be moving bees south (ortona) in the coming weeks for the Brazilian pepper bloom. If you want some just pm me and we can set it up.

rast

There you go, you know you'll be getting good bees and treated fair from Dallas. A good chance to get some education too.

$80 is to much LOL!

In the uk this season nucs are $232 and 10 frames are $510

rast

WOW! I'd have to do swarm catching only. Do you have much hive theft problems?

Thanks a lot guys. With all this help hopefully I'll be back to beekeeping in no time!
Rast, I was able to save about 6 medium frames of honey from my first hive. Once I'v got the  new colony installed, I am going to give it to them.

Is that because bees are in strong demand, or because they are in weak supply?

Has nothing to do with bees....

the US Dollar is in weak demand in the UK.
Go back a few years when the Euro and Dollar with nearly equal... then the prices were closer to real.
There is nothing new under the sun. Only your perspective changes to see it anew.

$60 to $80?  $20 is the cost of a few beers at the pub.  Spend it and get what you want - a new hive, especially in time for the pepper flow.  Mine are already filling up supers with it.
