We did our first extraction. Boy was it fun, but boy was it work. I used my turkey fryer to keep some good hot water on hand, kept the knife in there.  And thank goodness Golfpsycho was kind enough to bring up his extractor. It is a beauty, and its electric. He only lives a couple blocks away. We only did 3 supers and it was very well worth having an electric one. We got some great honey and most of all its ours. My wife and I did the work, we learned a ton, we did it as a family and we had a great time doing it. On top of that, I have met a ton of friends both here on this forum and locally.
Finding something like that is priceless. I have some pics that I will get up here tomorrow.
Thanks all for everything, it has been a long year since I got the first hives and wondered what in the world I was going to do. You have been extremely helpful, and friendly along the way.

What size bottles did you put it in?  I can have it all sold for you pretty darn quick.

Brendan,
Good to see you back around. I know that you were hanging with Brian and all, but good to see you. You forget I am from Utah so I am used to giving up 10%. No problem.
Today will be cleaning everything up &^%$^. I am not going to like that part at all I can tell.
It really is a blast for a hobby. The work, the anticipation, the danger, the drama and the sticky!!! I like the last part the most. :-D
Thanks again to Golfpsycho for the extractor, its not in bottles just yet, its in 5 gallon buckets with honey gates on them ready for bottling. I am unsure what to do. I will be doing the extra repair that we talked about. The one I did only held for about 30 sec. I am not sure the second idea will hold either after having seen the weight and pressure that the frames put on that particular area. I will do my best. I was thinking about just puttting he extractor and everything into the hot tub for cleanup and then charging the neighbors for a honey facial or bodial. :-D :-D What do you think of that idea. I was looking for a way to get a ton of hot water to wash it out with and I thought "Hey I have 500 gallons of 107 degree water right there, with jets and everything" Wife thinks that I am crazy??? She is so off base
Eastern shore, I have loved hearing about your interests and progress, very similar to mine and plus you get MD Blue crabs!!! We need to find a way for you to ship some to me, somehow....
Thanks all and have a great, final?? Summer weekend...

How about I pick some and sent you the meat. Maybe this next summer, or do you prefer doing the picking? I know folks do ship them, not sure how.

My first harvest was this year too.  Harvested twice... early August and late September.  Agood feeling and a great end product.  Congratulations!!

Too much work, take the extractor outside and let the girls clean it for you.  Put it a distance from the house though.  Next time use a biodegradable disposable drop cloth from Lowes ($4.00).  Cuts clean up time considerably as well. :-D
