One more question-
Has anybody used / purchased the all plastic extractor that Dadant sells?  I only will have a couple hives to extract...does it actually work O.K.?  Any and all thoughts are appreciated!  Thanks in advance!!

Charlotte,
Remember you get what you pay for ! That being said, that model extractor does work well for what it is.
It is not designed to stand up to exceptionally hard use over a prolong period of time and with even just a "couple" of hives which depending on what part of the country you live in may mean as many as 8 or more supers of honey to extract per year you may be under estimating your future requirements......just a thought.

I have four hives and average 2 supers per hive, 2 times a year. I have had the plastic extractor 3 seasons.
It only extracts two frames at a time and the frames have to be reversed for the other side.
It is holding up but I suspect I will only get 2-3 more years out of it.

Ramember cheap is cheap buy one made in the USA it will last you for 20 to 30 years as a small bee keep. I would buy a MAXANT made in Ayer,MASS. USA and ramember you can get parts for it.

If you have some limitting factor keeping you to two hives then it might be ok.  I thought I did, but now have 6 honey producing hives, and let me tell you, a two frame extractor is pure torture!

save your money for a 9/18 framer. :-D
