I've got a MASSIVE mound that has appeared behind my 3 hives... what is the safest way to kill these off?  They're the BIG black ants.... that we have here in Indiana.

Normally I would take a can of Ant spray & problem solved...  It's about 2 ft from the back side of the hives... and the mound is about a foot in dia....

They moved in fast!

You need to id them first, then you can proceed forward. Are they bothering your hives? If not, leave them alone.

Someone on here told me about using cinnamon to keep ants out of the hive.  I didn't have many, but I did put cinnamon on the inner cover and problem solved.  I have even tried it around the house and it held them at bay for a while.  You might try some on the mound.  Just a shot.
