Any concern about honey from cutouts?

Specifically from a hive that was in a void surrounded by OSB, would there be any concern about the honey?  The honey I strained from that cutout has a slight after-bite.  I don't mind it.  It isn't as good as the snippets I have stolen from my own hives, but good nonetheless.  My only concern is that someone that tasted it mentioned that maybe the bite was from gas built up from the OSB glue in the void.  ?????  Could that be?  I gave a jar of the honey to the customer from the cutout.   :?

All I know is that honey from cutouts I've done tastes different from honey from my hives... because of location and different flora. I did  a cutout the other day where the honey and pollen were definitely different, and the location was about 10 miles away and at a higher elevation. I almost liked that honey better. LOL. Variety is good.  :lol:

They propolized the interior first, so the honey is safe.

It would not surprise me if there was more pollen mixed in with the honey to give it a more bitter taste.  Especially if you are doing the crush and strain method.  I would assume the honey is alright for you to eat unless someone has sprayed the hive first.

The honey from my last cutout had a strange 'used motor oil' color and it tasted like....green persimmons! Very watery and I tossed it rather than risk it.
I had also discovered that it had been sprayed.....no one ever came clean on how long that it was before it did the cut out and the time it was sprayed.

Scott, the honey is fine, nothing to worry about. Many times honey will have a slight burning after taste, that I have found with a little time goes away. If you're harvesting cut out honey, go for the capped honey.

Thanks, everybody.  That info makes me feel better.  I thought it tasted great, but I thought I better ask all you pros.  Better safe than sorry.
