Love these photos you have taken. Those poppies are incredible.

Now John you don't want to know about "that"

Crazy people!  My bees are ignoring them! They're deep into my chives but could care less about the poppies.

When I was little, we lived in Turkey....The fields were covered in brite red poppies!! Us kids would go gather handfuls of the stuff and give it to our moms!...Then, one day, some guy came to our house and told the parents we oughtta not be picking that stuff....It could get somebody thrown in jail!
I also remember the asiaks( donkeys) getting into it and eating it.....and then the farmer guy would raise cain cuz the donkeys would plop over and just lay there for hours!...we could walk on them!!!
I really dont know about your poppies having opium in them....but they areddy show the little ball that drips the stuff when you slice the skin! :)
Ohhhh,...If i just knew then what I know now....ok....maybe not! :-D
But, keep the pics coming!

What a great story John..........   sorry, but I don't think these are "those" kind of poppies.  They grow at cool, damp latitudes, mine are free seeding now.  They don't form that sap when they scar and the seed pop is kind of hairy and weird and dry!  But I love your story, I can see the donkeys, what a crack up.
