Hi all --

I am from the Panhandle of Texas and doing research about keeping bees. I do not have a hive, yet. But doing lots of research and trying to decide!

I think that my main concerns is that I only have about 4 acres of land surrounded by pasture and farmland and a nice playa lake to the north. I have also heard of many bees becoming "africanized" in our part of the country, but then again this is heresay so I am not sure. Just starting on this journey!!! The weather is usually hot and dry here, with fairly mild but usually cold winters. I do have a LARGE garden, chickens, a goat and show hogs in the fall. Is it too late to get started, and do I have enough to sustain a hive or two? The health benefits and sheer joy of beekeeping have spoke volumes for this, but  :?.

Thanks everyone and good to meet all of you!
Don't have any of my own little busy bees yet ... but lurking and learning!

Texasbartrambaby.  Welcome to our forum, so great you found us.  This forum can be an enormous learning tool for you, you will find that out.  It will be a place where you can tell your stories and tales as well.  The study of the honeybee is a wonderful thing to do.  You will find that the more you learn, the more compelled you will be to learn, you will soon be held under their spell, as are the majority of beekeepers, whether they realize it or not, smiling,  8-).  Just a hint, it would be better for you to ask questions in the beeekeeping section of our forum, some people don't read all of the forums, like the greetings one, and you will certainly get more answers to your many questions coming up in that forum, redirect the question -- trust me, you will get many answers  8-) :)  Have a most wonderful and awesome day, enjoy our life, health.  Cindi

Some of us only have a postage stamp sized lot with a house so 4 acres is great.  I have 1.25 acres near the city limits with 1800 acres of forest land to the south and all the other directions are mostly houses.  I currently have 7 hives so you have space for a lot.
