The boys and I are diving into queen rearing and curious if anyone makes their own queen cups and if you could post a couple photos of your dowel/dipping process?

I've seen some suggest 1/4" dowel and others 5/16"... some tapered, some don't mention. Any advice there?

Thx!

Aww.. man! You would ask that question two days after I watched a video (French site; or was it German?) of doing just that! Dang... and now I can't find the link, of course. I don't remember them mentioning dowel sizes, anyway.

But, I found this at Michael Bush's site:

"When completed, the cells should be about five-sixteenths of an inch across the mouth and one-half inch deep inside measurements." <-- http://bushfarms.com/beesqueenrearingsimplified.htm#DippingCells

I saw no mention of tapering the dipping stick.
